Swedish furniture maker IKEA announced Thursday that it’s planning to open a new format store in Alpharetta, Georgia this summer.
Why it matters: The smaller “plan and order point” store will be the second IKEA location in the metro Atlanta.
Context: Atlanta’s first IKEA opened in Midtown’s Atlantic Station neighborhood in 2005.
What to expect: IKEA Alpharetta will be a 4,306 square feet, space at Mansell Crossing, a shopping center at 7681 North Point Pkwy.
- At this new store, customers can work with experts for design assistance in their kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.

The bottom line: IKEA U.S. market manager Brandon Lomax said in a statement that he hopes this means there will “no more trekking through that notorious Atlanta traffic.”
