Travelers at San Antonio International Airport are being asked to check their plans after Spirit Airlines ceased operations. The change means the carrier will no longer offer flights out of SAT.
In a statement, airport officials said they were “saddened” by the news, calling Spirit a longtime partner that helped expand low-cost travel options for local passengers. They noted the airline had already been scaling back its presence at SAT earlier this year, reducing service in January to just Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
“We have enjoyed our great partnership with the carrier and the opportunity to offer low fares to destinations popular with our passengers,” airport officials said. Spirit had served SAT since 2006.
With Spirit no longer operating, assistance from the airline will not be available at the airport. Passengers are advised to visit the carrier’s website or contact their credit card company directly for help with existing reservations, including potential refunds or rebooking options.
Airport leaders said they are continuing to advocate for expanded service from other carriers to help fill the gap. In the meantime, travelers can still reach South Florida on American Airlines flights to Miami, and Orlando via Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
San Antonio International Airport staff will be available to provide general guidance, but officials emphasized they cannot rebook passengers or issue refunds on Spirit’s behalf.
Travelers are encouraged to confirm their flight status before heading to the airport and plan accordingly.
