Festivities will run through Mid-October

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Multicultural Center kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with the Bienvenidos event, which ran from 1-5p.m. and included face painting, music, and Latin American cuisine.
Hispanic Heritage Month continues through Oct. 15 and the Multicultural Center will continue to host events in the coming weeks to celebrate. These include highlighting Latin American music, games and cuisine.
Hispanic Heritage Month originated as a week-long celebration in 1968 and expanded to a whole month in 1988. The timeframe is based on the independence day celebrations of several Latin American Countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on Sept. 15; Mexico on Sept. 16; Chile on Sept. 18; and Belize on Sept. 21. This month represents Latin American culture and independence, as well as the influences and contributions that Latin Americans have made in the United States.

All events and other information will be posted on the Multicultural Center’s Engage page.
