The Memorial Day rush may have come and gone, but the Daytona area isn’t slowing down just yet.
As another weekend rolls in, it brings with it plenty of ways to get outside and enjoy the start of summer, whether catching a free concert in Daytona Beach or cooling down with several sweet treats during DeLand’s annual Ice Cream Walk.
So, whether you’re in the mood for a lively night out or simply looking for a change of pace this weekend, here are five local events to check out from Daytona to Flagler Beach.
‘Midtown Music Concert Series’ features Jai’ Eagle, singer and songwriter
Looking to get out and enjoy a free concert? The “Midtown Music Concert Series” will feature singer and songwriter Jai’ Eagle this week, according to the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The concert will be from 7-9 p.m. on May 30 at Daisy Stocking Park at 555 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd., in Daytona Beach.
“Jai’ Eagle (Jonathan Parker) is a Miami native singer/songwriter whose work blends inspirational themes with contemporary R&B and performance formats ranging from acoustic sets to full band shows,” according to an event listing with the convention bureau.

Celebrate Hispanic culture, delicious food at Hispanic Food & Arts Fest in Palm Coast
This weekend, Palm Coast’s Central Park will be home to the amazing tastes, smells and music of Hispanic culture.
The 4th Annual Hispanic Food & Arts Fest of Palm Coast returns on May 30 to Park Street in Town Center. The Hispanic American Cultural Society, a local nonprofit, is again organizing the event.
“Come and enjoy cuisines from different Hispanic and non-Hispanic countries and see and listen to the very best in folkloric dances, arts and crafts, and music,” organizers said in a Facebook post inviting guests to the festival.
The event is free to the public and lasts from noon until 7 p.m.

Kick off summer with DeLand Ice Cream Walk
Would you like to enjoy tasting all the ice cream you want while you walk from one parlor to the next?
On May 29 you can do exactly that at the downtown DeLand Ice Cream Walk from 6 to 8 p.m.
It’s going to be one night with tons of ice cream to kick off the summer break, according to Mainstreet DeLand, the organizer of the event.
The event will be “held rain or shine,” event promoters said.
Mainstreet DeLand event organizers say the DeLand Ice Cream Walk is not just about enjoying delicious ice cream, but that it’s also about supporting local businesses and “connecting with your community.”
Non-refundable tickets, of which there are a limited number, are on sale for $16 for adults and $9 for children ages 12 and younger, say event organizers with Mainstreet DeLand.

Florida musician to perform at Wander Bar in DeLand
David Oliver Willis — a Lake County singer influenced by artists including Nina Simone, Michael Kiwanuka, Gillian Welch, and Gary Clark Jr., — will perform starting at 8 p.m. May 30 at Wander Bar in DeLand. The music will be at 208 N. Woodland Blvd.

Explore Florida native plants in Flagler County
Learn about native plants on May 29 during Washington Oaks Gardens State Park’s “Exploring Florida Native Plants Program,” near Palm Coast.
The program will be lead by Ranger Gabe Fitzgerald and will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the event stage. The park is located at 6400 N. Ocean Shore Blvd. in Flagler County. The program is free with a paid park entrance. Admission to the park is $5 per vehicle or $4 if you are by yourself.
During the event, Fitzgerald will “explore the beauty and benefits of Florida’s native plants,” according to a press release.
The release goes on to say participants will “learn which species thrive in your landscape, support local wildlife, and make your garden flourish naturally.”
The Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is also looking for volunteers. For more information on becoming a volunteer, visit washingtonoaks.org.
