NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — On this episode of “Tiempo,” we discuss a golf tournament that empowers Latinas and a Long Island town concerned about ICE.

The “Bellas Fashionista’ Foundation” is the first women-led golf tournament in New York State that mentors young Latinas.

The foundation uses golf as a platform for leadership and mentorship, holding monthly golf clinics.

In a few days, the organizers have a special “Madre e Hija” event to celebrate Mother’s Day.

We’ll also be discussing how people in one Long Island town are concerned about the municipality’s relationship with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

They recently voiced their concerns in a town hall meeting. They are anxious that Islip allows federal agents to use a town-owned facility for tactical training.

The presence of ICE agents in Islip-a community with roughly 70% Latino population-sparked significant tension. They argue tax dollars should not fund an agency that “tears families apart.”

The founder of ‘Islip Forward,’ Ahmad Perez, is here with us. The group focuses on empowering people in Islip and towns on Long Island with high-immigrant communities.
