The Brief

• The Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is launching a four-day workshop in late March to help truck drivers start their own businesses

• The training will focus on certification, contracting and working with government agencies and major contractors

• Workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish for drivers at all experience levels

TRI-CITIES, Wash. — The Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is launching a new workshop aimed at helping truck drivers turn their experience into a business opportunity.

The Chamber says the four-day workshop, planned for late March, will be done in partnership with the Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises. The training will focus on certification, contracting and what it takes to start an independent trucking business, especially for those interested in working with government agencies and major contractors.

“It will be people, you guys can be fairly new or you can already have a CDL, but the most important thing is that you want to start a business,” said Raul Contreras Gonzalez, Assistant Director of the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish to accommodate participants with different language preferences. The Chamber expects to announce more details and exact dates soon.

The initiative represents the Chamber’s continued effort to support entrepreneurship within the Hispanic community and help experienced drivers transition from employment to business ownership in the transportation sector.
