The School District of Palm Beach County has reaffirmed its position as a powerhouse for public education, with two of its campuses ranked in the top 1% of high schools nationwide.
According to the latest annual rankings published by U.S. News & World Report, Suncoast High School in Riviera Beach made a dramatic surge up the board. The school jumped 20 positions from last year’s list, climbing from No. 101 to No. 81 nationally, reclaiming its status among the country’s top 100.
“Reclaiming Suncoast’s spot among the top 100 high schools in the nation is a powerful validation of our pursuit of academic excellence,” said Kathryn Koerner, the school’s Principal. “Reaching national distinction of this caliber reflects the relentless drive of our students, as well as the unmatched dedication of our teachers, administrators, support staff, and families.”
At the same time, Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach sits at No. 125 in the country. This is out of approximately 18,000 public high schools evaluated across the United States.
“Being ranked among the nation’s elite high schools is a testament to the passion, creativity, and extraordinary talent of our students, faculty, and community at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts,” the school’s Principal, Blake Bennett said. “Proving that artistic expression and rigorous academics can go hand-in-hand is yet another example of what I like to call Dreyfoos magic!”
Since U.S. News & World Report launched its high school evaluation system in 2007, both District-operated schools have regularly appeared among the national top 100. U.S. News & World Report evaluates schools using a comprehensive scoring model. Key metrics include student scores on state-mandated tests, graduation rates, school enrollment, and overall participation and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) exams.
“To see two Palm Beach County School District schools among the nation’s top 1% of high schools shows our community that a world-class education is happening every day in our schools,” Superintendent Michael J. Burke said. “Congratulations to the teachers, school leaders, students, and families of Suncoast and A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts on this incredible achievement.”
The District’s impact is equally pronounced at the state level. Suncoast captured the No. 8 spot overall in Florida, making it one of only two South Florida schools to reach the state’s Top 10. Dreyfoos secured the No. 15 position statewide.
Several other Palm Beach County District high schools earned high positions within Florida’s top ranks:
