Frost Brown Todd (FBT) is pleased to announce that John Thomas has joined the firm’s Houston office as a Partner in the Private Equity & Venture Capital practice group. Thomas brings more than two decades of experience in corporate, transactional, and oil and gas matters that will further diversify the firm’s existing capabilities in Texas and nationwide.

“John’s experience at all levels of the energy sector, including serving as general counsel to both public and private equity portfolio companies in the energy space, makes him an outstanding addition to the firm,” said Eddy Moore, leader of Frost Brown Todd’s Private Equity & Venture Capital practice group. “He brings a deep understanding of complex transactions and a comprehensive grasp of the industry’s nuances — from upstream operations to midstream infrastructure and beyond — that will be invaluable to our clients and supports our ongoing commitment to growth and leadership in the Texas energy market.”

Joining FBT from Grable Martin, Thomas’s practice focuses on corporate, transactional, and oil and gas matters, including financings, M&A, oil and gas operations, complex contract drafting and negotiation, corporate governance, and transactional insurance procurement. He has served as General Counsel for multiple energy companies, where he managed all legal affairs including those related to M&A, joint ventures, public company reporting, compliance, litigation oversight, ESG initiatives, risk management, and corporate secretarial matters. Thomas also provides outsourced general counsel services to small and mid-size companies without sufficient in-house legal resources.

“John is a highly skilled attorney with deep experience in the energy sector, and he is well-positioned to enhance our Houston office’s growth and capabilities,” added Ken Bullock, partner-in-charge of Frost Brown Todd’s Houston office. “He is an excellent addition to our team and represents FBT’s ongoing commitment to bringing top-tier talent to serve our clients across the Lone Star State and beyond.”

Thomas has been active in a number of professional organizations, including the Texas and Oklahoma Bar Associations, the Houston Bar Association, the Texas General Counsel Forum, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Association of International Energy Negotiators, and the Houston Producers Forum. His recognitions include being named one of Houston’s top lawyers in Corporate, Oil & Gas, and Finance Law by HTexas magazine (2011), a finalist for the Houston Business Journal’s Outstanding Solo General Counsel award (2016), and a key contributor to the Crimson Exploration–Contango Oil & Gas merger, recognized as a 2013 Transaction of the Year by Oil & Gas Financial Journal.

“I’m thrilled to join Frost Brown Todd, a firm that values both entrepreneurial energy and a strong commitment to clients,” said Thomas. “Having worked with several of the firm’s attorneys in the past, I’m excited to collaborate with them again and to contribute to a dynamic team focused on delivering tailored legal solutions in the energy sector.”
