Waymo users might need more time to get to their destinations around the Valley for a while.
Waymo LLC continues to face technical issues that have now forced the autonomous ride-hailing company to temporarily halt service on freeways in metro Phoenix and several other cities.
Media reports from Reuters and TechCrunch cited confirmation from the Mountain View, California-based company that it had suspended robotaxi service on freeways in Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami as it works to improve the performance of its driverless vehicles in specific situations, notably in construction zones and in areas where roadways are flooded.
Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG), is still operating on surface streets in those cities, the reports said.
Waymo confirmed to TechCrunch that it is working on integrating “recent technical learnings into our software and expect to resume these routes soon.”
