Media Release: Los Angeles County

Several Storms to Impact Los Angeles Through Mid-March

City of Los Angeles Emergency Alert: The National Weather Service forecasts a series of rain storms will impact Los Angeles for the next two weeks, with the first storm expected in Los Angeles Wednesday through Friday.

While the amount of rainfall expected in the LA area for the first storm is about an inch, recent burn areas from the Palisades, Hurst, Kenneth, and Sunset fires are at a higher risk of debris flows and water runoff that may contain hazardous substances.

Get ready and take extra precautions, especially if you are in an area impacted by the recent wildfires.

When preparing for the storm, take the following actions:

• The National Weather Service predicts that minor debris flows in areas recently impacted by fires are possible during this storm. Now is the time to start preparing your property.

• Pick-up sandbags from your local fire station. More information on locations is available here: https://emergency.lacity.gov/rain-impacts-and-preparation

• Sign up to receive text, email, and phone call LA City emergency alerts for your home, work, and school at www.notifyla.org. If you have recently relocated to a new area, sign up for alerts at your new address.

• Check in on your neighbors to make sure they know about the storm conditions and are prepared.

During the storm, take the following actions:
• Avoid areas where there is water runoff from recent wildfire burn scars, including debris basins.
• Roads in recent burn areas may be impacted by mud and rocks in the road. If possible, limit driving. If absolutely necessary, give yourself extra time to safely drive to your destination.
• Call 911 with any life-threatening emergencies.
• Call 311 to report downed tree branches, blocked storm drains, or localized flooding.
