Andrew Terraciano played Sean Reagan on all 11 seasons of “Blue Bloods,” but he was recast for the show’s spinoff, “Boston Blue.”

During a recent interview with Us Weekly, Terraciano, 22, recalled the moment he found out he was being replaced.

“They had spoken to my mom and she called me [crying],” Terraciano said, noting that he got the news the day of his graduation from New York University. “They were like, ‘They might be looking for a different Sean.’”

Terraciano’s TV dad, Donnie Wahlberg, who reprises his role as Danny Reagan on “Boston Blue,” reached out to him about the recasting.

“Shortly after we got the news, Donnie called me. It was a really beautiful moment of getting to hear from an old friend but also somebody that you respect so much and have learned so much from,” Terraciano shared. “We had such an amazing experience on ‘Blue Bloods’ that when we talk we’ll always be friends and family first.”

Mika Amonsen took over as Sean on “Boston Blue.” The spinoff premiered in October, just under a year after “Blue Bloods” came to an end in December 2024. During an October interview with Variety, “Boston Blue” co-showrunner Brandon Margolis explained the reason for the Sean recast.

“We love Andrew and the work he did over the years on ‘Blue Bloods.’ Really, it came down to we’re telling a new chapter in both [Sean and Danny’s] lives,” Margolis said, noting that Sean becoming a cop brings a new dynamic for both him and his detective dad.

“There are all these new storytelling lanes to explore,” Margolis continued. “It felt like there was an organic opportunity to bring in a new performance with a new energy, to help dramatize that change. It is the same character, it’s the same relationship, but it’s also completely different. We love what Mika has brought to Sean, this vulnerability, yet this desire to prove himself. It’s just been great to watch it come to life.”

Terraciano seemingly has no hard feelings about Amonsen replacing him.

“It’s beautiful because you’ll always remember every single line and every day that you had the opportunity to be that character. It doesn’t mean for even a second that somebody else can’t go and do something beautiful with it,” he told Us Weekly.

Amonsen told the same outlet that he felt “a ton of pressure” when he joined the “Boston Blue” cast because he “wanted to respect Andrew the best I could.”

“I really want to maintain Sean as close as I can in the ways that I do it out of respect for this character that everyone loves — but also the character Andrew built,” Amonsen said.

“Blue Bloods,” which aired on CBS from 2010 to 2024, followed an Irish Catholic law enforcement family living in New York City. In addition to Wahlberg, the show starred Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan), Will Estes (Jamie Reagan), Len Cariou (Henry Reagan) and Tom Selleck (Frank Reagan).

Wahlberg is the only “Blue Bloods” alum who carried over to “Boston Blue” as a main cast member. The spinoff also stars Sonequa Martin-Green (Lena Silver), Ernie Hudson (Reverend Edwin Peters), Maggie Lawson (Sarah Silver), Gloria Reuben (Mae Silver), and Marcus Scribner (Jonah Silver).

“Boston Blue” airs on CBS on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET. Past episodes are available to stream on Paramount+.
