A cannabis dispensary in Woodstock will become among the first in Illinois to open drive-thru service after a state law change and the Woodstock City Council’s approval.

Terrabis, located at 601 South Eastwood Drive in Woodstock, is set to open the drive-thru service later this month.

It will be McHenry County’s first dispensary drive-thru. An exact opening date has not been set but the company said it is expected “by the end” of September.

It will be the company’s second drive-thru in Illinois following the opening of the state’s first dual-window dispensary drive-thru at Terrabis Grayville on September 4.

Terrabis says the Woodstock drive-thru will give customers a faster, more convenient way to pick up online orders without leaving their vehicle.

It will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight on Sunday and Monday and from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

“Everything we do starts with the customer, and a drive-thru is simply the most convenient way for someone to pick up an order. We’ve spent years building drive-thru operations that work, and we’re proud to bring that experience to Woodstock and to McHenry County,” Terrabis CEO Dan Ambrosino said.

Terrabis credited local officials with helping move the project forward.

“Mayor Turner, the City Council, Joe Napolitano and the building and planning department were tremendous partners throughout our local approvals. Woodstock has been a genuine collaborator from the beginning, and that’s why we continue to invest here,” Ambrosino said.

Terrabis, which opened its Woodstock location in March 2025, says it has hired locally and supported community events, making community investment a “core part of its approach in Woodstock and across Illinois.”

The company has operated drive-thrus in Missouri since 2021, beginning in O’Fallon and Springfield. They tout themselves as the “most established dispensary drive-thru operators in the country.”

All five of Terrabis’ Illinois dispensaries are built drive-thru ready. The remaining three await local approvals.

Drive-thru sales at Illinois dispensaries were previously prohibited under state law.

Terrabis proposed converting its now-Woodstock location, a former Burger King, in 2024.

City documents at the time said the existing drive-thru window would be removed because drive-thru sales at dispensaries were banned by the state but the window stayed.

The ban ended in June when Gov. JB Pritzker signed Senate Bill 3222, a wide-ranging cannabis and hemp measure.

The law amended the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act to allow licensed dispensaries in Illinois to offer drive-thru and curbside pickup to recreational customers and registered medical patients.

The law did not let dispensaries open a drive-thru immediately. In July, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation issued guidance explaining how operators must carry out the change.

A dispensary has to submit an updated floor plan showing where the service will take place, along with a revised security plan and standard operating procedures covering the new process before receiving state approval to open the window.
