Day of the Dead MarketCatrinas ProcessionLatin American Heritage Month Festival

Mark your calendars, because one of B.C.’s most iconic cultural festivals is back, and everyone is invited to partake in the celebrations.

Latin American Heritage Month Festival (LAHM) kicked off on Oct. 14, bringing communities together through music, food, art, and literature, and it and runs until Nov. 2 with some special events still to come.

Here’s what to expect.

Day of the Dead Market

Latincouver

Celebrate Día de los Muertos at Granville Island on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, with several arts and crafts workshops exploring Mexican culture, ancestral traditions, and ways to honour loved ones.

Activities include creating colourful papel picado banners, decorating sugar skulls, crafting Catrina-inspired lanterns, designing personal ofrenda altars to remember loved ones, and sharing stories that celebrate cultural heritage and community.

You can also savour the flavours of Latin America with culinary delights, enjoy live music, and explore a vibrant artisan market.

The festivities also include a Catrina Party on Halloween evening, bringing the celebration to life even further through art and tradition.

Catrinas Procession

Latincouver

The Catrinas Procession takes place on Nov. 2, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Mexico’s Día de los Muertos through music, dance, colourful costumes, and elaborately painted skull faces.

The parade begins in Gastown before continuing to the Latin Plaza HUB for a closing ceremony with pan de muerto, hot chocolate, and Mexican food available for purchase.

Admission to the procession is free, while the closing ceremony welcomes guests with a $5 donation.

Check out the Latincouver website for a full schedule of workshops, exhibitions, events, parades, and live performances taking place throughout the month, and don’t miss out on the fantastic celebration.
