There have been comfortably over 700,000 people playing EA Sports College Football 25 online across all platforms at times this week – and it’s technically not even out yet. The long-awaited American football game can be enjoyed for up to ten hours as part of subscription EA Play, while those who plumped up for the more expensive Ultimate Edition can play already. However, the official release is not due until 19th July.
It’s perhaps a reminder of just how huge this title is shaping up to be, particularly in the United States where it’s likely going to be battling with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and – amusingly – Madden NFL 25 for the position of 2024’s best-selling game. We’d expect the concurrent player numbers to comfortably double over the weekend.
The reason for all the enthusiasm is because there hasn’t been a college football game in over a decade, and fans have been patiently playing NCAA Football 14 since. To be fair, we’ve been testing out the title for review this week and it looks like the wait has been worth it: the production values are through the roof and there are an insane number of schools and programmes authentically represented.
Expect this one to both review and sell ridiculously well.
