Pirates aim to keep their playoff hopes alive as they look to sweep the division-leading White Sox
Winners of eight of their last 10 games, the Pittsburgh Pirates continue their Windy City road trip on Thursday night as they aim for a fourth-straight road win and a series sweep of the American League Central Division-leading Chicago White Sox. The Cinderella Southsiders have stumbled down the stretch in September, having lost seven of their last 10 games, but after three consecutive 100-loss seasons, the White Sox are on the verge of their first playoff appearance in five seasons as they nurse a two-game lead over Cleveland with 17 games remaining in the season. The Pirates will send second-year right-hander Jared Jones (3-6, 4.46 ERA) to the mound in search of his second win of September, having now allowed more than three earned runs in any of his last four outings. The White Sox will counter with rookie southpaw Hagen Smith (3-1, 0.56 ERA) in his first career start after 10 appearances out of the bullpen since being called up a month ago.

Murakami missed 35 games with a hamstring strain and slogged through August, where he hit just .147 at the plate managing just four hits and no home runs in his final 12 games of the month, but has rebounded to homer twice in his last four games.
With the fourth-best batting average in Major League Baseball, Pirates third baseman Nick Gonzales is hitting a team-best .305 at the plate this season, posting career highs in runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBIs stolen bases, and his first 100-hit campaign, tallying 155 hits in 135 games.
