WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Día del Niño is a traditional Hispanic holiday celebrating children which has taken place since 1925. This year’s Día del Niño, hosted in Wichita Falls by Zavala Hispanic Culture Initiative, will hold various activities for children to look forward to, including arts and crafts, book reading, and plenty of other ways to learn while having fun.

Esly Pimentel, Zavala Hispanic Culture Initiative Executive Director, said that the tradition celebrates children.

“Dia del Niño is a traditional Hispanic holiday basically where kids are celebrated throughout Latin America and Hispanic countries in the world and basically celebrating them just for them being children,” Pimentel said.

Zavala said that they started their event for the holiday last year.

The event is in collaboration with the Wichita Falls Museum of Art and WFISD’s bilingual department.

“This year’s Dia Del Niño we’ll do the same, we’ll have a touch of you know dance, classes for the children that are there, painting classes, and so there is a lot of different type of activities that all revolve around our culture and also education and what not,” Pimentel said.

He said that the community can expect museum tours, community vendors, food vendors, and more to encourage connection across cultural communities.

The event is free to the public, and it starts at 2:30 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to RSVP on the Zavala website or arrive early.
