SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — You know the Texas economy continues to roll, and now San Antonio can expect another boost as a result.
On Monday, Governor Greg Abbott announced a $3.6 billion investment by Toyota to expand operations in the Alamo City.
The South Side plant operated by Toyota Motor North America will create a second vehicle assembly line for the production of the Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The expansion is expected to bring around 2,000 jobs to the area by the year 2030. The plant already makes Tundra pickups and the Sequoia SUV.
“This Texas-sized investment reflects the strength of our workforce and the unmatched business advantages found only in our state,” said Governor Abbott. “This expansion will deliver economic opportunities to generations of San Antonio families and further cement Texas as the premier destination for world-class advanced manufacturing.”
The Toyota Texas plant will add 2.5 million square feet to the current facility, which will double in size.
Monday’s announcement comes after Toyota announced an additional 400 jobs coming to the South Side plant to expand the production of truck axles.
