WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $574,588 grant to Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, to expand entrepreneurial support to three Utah regions.

This grant will establish the Wildcat Micro Fund and provide business resources and training to support entrepreneurs in underserved and rural areas of Utah. This EDA investment will be matched with $784,732 in local funds and is expected to create 62 jobs, according to grantee estimates.

“The Economic Development Administration works closely with local communities to support place-based economic development,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This project will provide entrepreneurs in rural and underserved parts of Utah with the resources and training they need to start and grow businesses, creating jobs and a stronger regional economy.”

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, and Utah is known for our innovative and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Representative Blake Moore (UT-01). “I am thrilled Weber State is receiving this grant to expand and support entrepreneurs in our rural and underserved communities so more Utahns have the ability to start businesses, pursue their passions, and provide for their families.”
