Civic Opera Building at 20 N Wacker Drive

CHICAGO— In a move that underscores both its growth trajectory and commitment to Chicago’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, Workbox, a national coworking and flexible workspace provider, has announced the opening of its largest location to date.

Set in the iconic Civic Opera Building at 20 N Wacker Drive, the new site—Workbox Chicago – Civic Opera—will officially open its doors on June 2, 2025.

This newest expansion marks Workbox’s seventh location in Chicago and 13th nationwide, and represents a major investment in the Loop, Chicago’s bustling downtown business district. Spanning over 68,000 square feet across two floors, the workspace will offer a comprehensive suite of amenities tailored for startups, growing businesses, and established enterprises alike.

“Our Chicago footprint has grown significantly in response to a clear return-to-work trend across businesses of all sizes,” said John Wallace, CEO and Founder of Workbox. “The Civic Opera Building gives us an opportunity to not only meet that demand, but to revitalize a historic Chicago landmark into a premier professional destination. Its proximity to Ogilvie and Union Stations also makes it ideal for commuters from across the region.”

The Civic Opera location offers an array of flexible workspace solutions, including private offices and suites for teams of 1 to 50 people, open coworking options, and dedicated desks. Members will enjoy access to modern amenities such as conference rooms, spacious lounges, a public outdoor area, and a fitness facility, along with high-speed connectivity and other essentials that support today’s hybrid work model.

More than just a place to work, Workbox emphasizes community and business growth. Members benefit from direct access to over 100 capital and operating partners, frequent programming and networking events, and integration into Workbox’s broader network, which includes Workbox Ventures—its affiliated investment arm.

To celebrate the opening, Workbox is rolling out leasing specials for private offices and suites, along with membership options for individual users and freelancers.

As Workbox continues to expand across the country, its Civic Opera launch highlights the company’s focus on creating vibrant, supportive environments that empower innovation and collaboration—right in the heart of America’s top business hubs.
