The U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) has partnered with the Biden-Harris Administration’s Good Jobs Initiative to bring their principles and practices to educational organizations throughout the United States, providing additional support for current and future educators.

In coordination with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), the USDOE developed a set of Good Jobs Principles for Education that provide a framework for high-quality careers in education. These best practices were created to encourage all education organizations to provide their workforce with access to growth opportunities, competitive wages, family-sustaining benefits, and a safe workplace.

In addition to these principles, new funding opportunities were announced to increase the number of teachers by providing affordable and high-quality pathways for aspiring educators. The USDOE  allocated close to $50 million to support programs to fund on-the-job learning in the classroom, grow-your-own programs, high school dual enrollment programs, and registered apprenticeship programs.

Also included in this investment is funding for minority-serving institutions to increase the diversity of teachers and funds to support individuals aspiring to become certified bilingual or multilingual teachers.

Additional funding from the DOL includes nearly $200 million to expand registered apprenticeship programs. Both the USDOE and DOL plan to set aside funds for the creation and expansion of technical assistance centers to support the educator workforce and registered apprenticeship programs.

For more information on this initiative, check out the US Department of Education Press Release.
